Fortnite lands on Switch today. Here’s how to download and play. Fortnite: Battle Royale is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Better yet, Epic’s massively popular battle royale game is That’s not entirely surprising given that numerous leaks and rumors pointed to the game’s imminent release on Nintendo Switch. Here’s everything you need to know about Fortnite on Nintendo Switch. When does it come out? Fortnite lands on Nintendo Switch today at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET. But you should get started signing up for an account right away.

How big is it? According to leaks—we don’t have all the official information yet—the download is just over 2 GB. How much does it cost? Fortnite’s battle royale mode is free-to-play. The less popular co-op PvE mode is still pay-to-play, but the Battle Royale is where most of the action is.

It’s not clear wither Save-The-World will even be part of the Nintendo Switch launch, however. The smaller download size suggests this will just be Battle Royale for the time being at least. How do I sign up? Go to the Epic Games Fortnite registration page There you can sign up for a free Epic Games account. Once you’ve signed up you can start linking your various console and social media accounts with your Epic account so that you can play with friends across various platfroms (PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS and now Nintendo Switch.) What then? Once you’ve signed up and linked your accounts, simply head the Nintendo eShop on your Nintendo Switch and download the game beginning at 10 am. Once downloaded, simply select Battle Royale and start playing.

How will this work with Nintendo’s online service? Honestly, this is something we’ll have to test out and get back to you about. The Switch’s online service isn’t the most robust out there—you need a phone to voice chat—but I imagine it should work just fine.

Here’s the Nintendo Switch Fortnite trailer: What’s this Battle Pass all about? If you’re new to Fortnite you may not be familiar with the Battle Pass. While Fortnite is free-to-play, Epic runs 10-week seasons (we’re on Season 4 at the moment) for Battle Pass holders. The Battle Pass costs $10 and gives player access to 100 Tiers of cosmetic rewards. You unlock these cosmetics by playing, leveling up and completing weekly challenges. It adds a fun layer of play that goes beyond just playing to win and you end up with a few new skins each season, plus new emotes, sprays and so forth. Of course, you can play without the Battle Pass, but I think it makes the game a lot more fun and it’s pretty affordable, all things considered.

What are V-Bucks? V-Bucks are the premium currency in Fortnite. You can buy these with real money and then spend them on in-game cosmetic items like special skins and other cosmetics. Don’t trust anyone giving away free V-Bucks except for Epic Games.

Anything else I should know? Well, mostly you should just download and have fun and not worry too much about winning. But here are a few tips:. Learn how to build as soon as possible. Building is critical to success. It’s especially important as a defensive mechanic.

You can build walls to block incoming enemy fire, or build cover to take out opponents. Once you get good, you’ll be building on the offensive.

Always have a shotgun. Aiming is a bit wonky in Fortnite and it will almost certainly be even more wonky with the Joy-Cons’ tiny thumbsticks. Shotguns give you powerful close-quarters shots without needing to be great at aiming. Listen for chests. Treasure chests are everywhere, dotted across the giant map, and if you listen you’ll here them typically hidden behind walls or in attics. Loot these and try to buff your character up on shields and more powerful weapons. Weapons come in various tiers from grey (standard) to gold (legendary) with green, blue and purple in-between.

Questions for machinist interview. Stock up on the best weapons you can find. Don’t get caught out in the Storm. As you play any given match of Fortnite, the Storm Circle will continue to shrink, driving players closer and closer together.

As a new player, it helps to land further out from the center to get your bearing without immediately dying. You can loot up before engaging enemies. But you want to be careful to watch the timer and not get stuck in the Storm. It will kill you.

There’s tons more I could offer up as advice, but these tips should get you started. How can I play with players on other platforms? Once you link accounts you should be able to add friends via their Epic account regardless of what platform you’re on.

(Xbox and PlayStation are the only two platforms I’m aware of that can’t cross-play, though I am not 100% certain yet if Switch is available with both.) Simply add friends to your party and play away. I’ve played with my kids on PC and PS4 together. Today we’ll be playing on PS4 and Switch unless Sony blocks cross-play. Better yet, all your Battle Pass progression and owned cosmetics carries over between platforms. So you can play on your iPad and then your Switch and all your loot will still be there. Update: It looks as though Sony will indeed be blocking cross-play between the Switch and PS4. I guess that means that the Switch and the Xbox One will be a match made in heaven.
